Feng-Shui is an ancient Chinese art which aims at balancing the energies surrounding us in our homes or workplaces in order to create an ideal place which offers harmony, health, well-being and success. It has been very popular in the United States and England since the 1980s and is becoming more and more successful in France too ; for example, the Sofitel hotel at the Arc de Triomphe, the Bouygues company, British Airways, Accor, Virgin, Air France and its new Terminal G all follow the principles of Feng Shui.

In ancient China, Feng Shui was one of the eight branches of traditional Chinese medicine which considers that every illness results from energetic imbalance. Feng Shui takes into account the environment, the architecture and the balance of the five elements : fire, earth, metal, water and wood, the Yin-Yang polarity and the symbolics.

The basis of a Feng Shui study is the Chi (positive energy), expressed by Feng (wind) and Shui (water) since it is conveyed by them. Sounds, colours, orientation all influence us. Pain, conflict, discomfort can come from our living place since the Chi feeds our thoughts, our emotions, our aspirations…One of the most effective ways of creating positive energy in Feng Shui is the good use of the five elements in accordance with the cardinal points of the house.

By applying the rules of traditional Feng Shui (the school of shape, the school of the compass, flying star), we can take into consideration all the elements which enter into the decoration of the house, from the arrangement of the furniture to the shape of decorative objects as well as the harmony of the colours (each sector of our life can be improved by using the colour associated with it), the choice of materials and the symbolic which animates all the living spaces. When Feng Shui is correctly installed, we can take advantage of its benefits…
